Conquering the Motocross Jump
For the beginner you might view a tabletop or triple as just a big hill to coast over, but as you gain confidence you'll see what we all see, AIRTIME!!!
The most important aspect of the motocross jump is to make sure you are in good physical shape. Upper body strength for control as well as leg strength for gripping the motocross bike are a must. Know your bike and know what you are capable of handling with your bike. Practice!
As you race toward the motocross jump be sure to get up to the speed required for clearing the jump. It is important to get your motocross bike up to launch speed before you enter the incline of the ramp. This will help you to avoid a loss of control if you encounter little bumps and possible ruts on the up ramp. You don't want to rush to accelerate while you're on the up ramp of the jump. Before reaching the incline GET your rear off the seat and be in a crouched stance with your weight spread evenly. Grip the bike with your legs and keep your elbows bent and out.

As you reach the top of the ramp you may have to tweak the throttle a bit and use your elbows and knees to absorb the last bump or lip at the top. Once you're in the air you will need to already know what you're going to do next. If you'll be landing on a flat surface pull up a bit on the front to allow the motocross bike to lift just enough so the rear tire hits the ground first with the front end quickly following. Just before the rear tire touches, give the motocross bike a little gas to help spread the momentum of the impact of the landing and this will also allow you to pull out quicker. When landing on another ramp (declining) Use your rear brake a little to bring the rear end up enough to bring the motocross bike to about the same angle as the down ramp as you land. Timing is very important so practice this as often as you can before tearing up the track.
Tip: The more streamline your airtime the quicker you get to the other side and land. Practice motocross race jumping having as little hangtime and airtime necessary to clear each type of obstacle.
